We are very privileged to have Paul King, Abbot of the Dari Rulai Fa Yin Temple, visit our lovely centre this February.

He will be offering a introductory session on, and perhaps even a demonstration of, Medicine Buddha as well as leading a meditation(s). He will also speak about how to generate 'Self Spiritual Light' and be available for questions and answers.

I'm sure it will be very illuminating and a must for anyone interested in meditation, healing, self development or Buddhism.

Medicine Buddha is the main body of teachings in Esoteric (Vajrayana) Buddhism on healing and health. Medicine Buddha meditation itself not only transforms physical health for ourselves and others, but is a way towards enlightenment.

After a lot of soul searching following the death of my lovely Dad, I have decided to focus my energies on what matters to me most, and as far as I can, drop everything else.

As such CityZen Yoga and Meditation studio is becoming a Hanmi Meditation Centre. In other words we are going to specialise in one particular style of meditation rather than being a centre which has classes in different forms and styles.

So what is Hanmi meditation and why, out of many forms of yoga and meditation, is it the one closest to my heart?

Why Hanmi:

I exclusively practice this form of meditation because it really works and the benefits can be quickly experienced. And because I was blessed to learn it from someone who had truly mastered it and so could perfectly teach it.

Hanmi meditation uses a combination of visualisations, comfortable sitting postures and special sounds (mantras). They are blended in such a way that the whole is much greater than the sum of the parts. Because we engage simultaneously the body, and the centres in the brain (or mind) for speech/sound and sight/symbols, pretty much all of us is present in the meditation. As such most people find the practise particularly accessible and quickly feel the difference.

Hanmi meditation comes from ancient China and is a blend of the 'hidden' or 'mystic' teachings of Buddha with Taoism and Confucianism.

My teacher, Chinese Zen and Hanmi Buddhist Master Dechan Jueren, started teaching this form of meditation publicly for the first time in over 1000yrs, opening up the 'mystery school' to any one who wanted to learn how to change their lives, no matter what background or beliefs they had.

In other words there is no need to become 'Buddhist' to learn how to meditate this way.

Meditation times for January at CityZen:

Every Tues at 7.15pm

Usually 2nd last Sat at 10.00am, but check website for dates

Each session is about 1 hr. Suggested donation (any amount accepted) is £5-10.

I hope to see you soon.

Wishing you every happiness and blessing for 2015,

I was taught 'true identity' or 'true name', though having meditated on it I prefer 'true being'. Here's why:

Sat is a precision. The sound itself has a definite edge as it stops suddenly with the 't'. Truth can have that kind of precision when it is like the sword that divides or discerns (i.e. true from untrue).

Nam has a vibration (mmmmm) which continues. Although the literal translation in English might be 'name', in English the word 'name' is often used much like the word 'label'. Something that is attached to something else. With 'Nam' the 'naming' is more like 'equating'. Not a random label but the thing itself.

We can go further in our exploration. Nam is not an equivalence in the sense of a definition. It has no sharpness like 'Sat' that divides or defines. It is a continuum, a being. Nam goes on being itself.

So I like to think of Sat Nam (especially as an accompaniment to the continuous flow of inhale Sat /exhale Nam) as Truth Being or Being Truth. Or True Being or Being True.

Sat Nam (like inhale/exhale) is also complete in the way Yin/Yang is complete. The polarities define each other, create each other and flow into each other. Ultimately the true Sat is the Nam, at the true Nam has to be Sat. If something is really true in this way it will not crumble and fade away. If something is continuous it can only be true.

Therefore True Being or Being True is the True Self and is both outside of time and beyond definition.
